ARLENE BRAKE

Arlene began her Yoga journey 20 years ago right here in Rotorua when a work colleague invited Arlene to her first Yoga class. From that day onwards she had found a hobby with the ability to not only bring her home to herself, but also connected her with like minded communities.
Over the years Arlene has explored and experimented with a varied and eclectic range of styles as a Yoga student but she was always most attracted to Hatha, Iyengar or Restorative Yoga classes.
After 15 years of living a fairly transient lifestyle Arlene discovered a deep soul calling to reconnect with her roots and move home to New Zealand. Upon this journey of rediscovery she was led to Takaka in the beautiful South Island to complete a 200hr Yoga Teacher Training through Awakening Arts. The training turned out to be one of the most challenging and transformational experiences of her life. Not only did the month long immersion transform her being but it also completely transformed what she knew yoga to be and how she experienced her own yoga practice on the mat and off the mat....into the world around her. This shift in perspective was so inspiring that she began facilitating Yoga classes within the community in 2022 and is now bringing her energy and insights to Yoga Rotorua on a more regular basis.
Arlene facilitates the Yoga space using principles and practices of Terra Soma™ Yoga and/or trauma informed Yoga, nurturing a focus on regulating our nervous system through exploring what it may feel like to find and be in our window of tolerance. Students may expect light sprinklings of wisdom and teachings throughout the class and a focus on finding your own unique “alignment” or sweet spot in each shape (asana), perhaps this will likely look different to the person next you or even the person you were yesterday or will be tomorrow. The classes tend to center around identifying with our ever changing internal landscape through the exploration of breath, movement and asana (shapes).
Arlene endeavors to provide safe, inclusive and transformational exploration in yoga asana, meditation, and breath through a somatic lens.
